Jerry A. Mattson "Bear", 69, Orofino
     
Jerry A. Mattson "Bear", of Grangemont died Feb. 5, 2004 at Clearwater Valley Hospital from cancer. He was 69. Jerry was born March 19, 1934 to Robert and Bessie Yunek Mattson. He was raised in Orofino and graduated from Orofino High School in 1952. He married Carolyn Gleason June 4, 1955 and moved to Grangemont where they made their home. He worked for White Pine Lumber Co. at Band Mill and then for Potlatch at O'Mill and Ahsahka. He started working in the woods driving truck for Bano Logging in the early 70's. later in the 80's and 90's, he worked for Lougee Logging, Green Logging, Barnett Logging, Finke Logging, Triplett Logging and drove Belly Dump for Tripco Inc. Jerry loved working in the woods. He took pride in keeping his trucks clean and in tip-top shape. In his earlier days he enjoyed motorcycle riding and raced in many local motorcycle races. Playing cards with his family and spending time with his nephew Greg was an activity he enjoyed very much. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his 4-wheeler with family and friends. He will be missed very much.
     
He is survived by his wife Carolyn, five children, Doug Mattson of Orofino, Rusty Mattson of Clarkston, Wash., Cheri and Montie Walker of Grangemont, Mike Mattson of Weippe and Sue Brown of Orofino; two granddaughters, Misty Walker and Danielle Brown. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Lyda of Orofino and Mary McKenzie of Boise; and one brother, Frenchy Mattson of Hill City, South Dakota.
     
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Roy and Gilbert Mattson and one sister, Marie Evert. A graveside service was held Monday, Feb. 9 at Weseman Cemetery.
